Hi,

You need different requirements for using active directory in different server OS. I am giving a requirement based on Windows Server 2008.

1.       You need an NTFS partition with more than 20 Gb free space.

2.       Need the administrator’s username and password which is given at the time of OS installation.

3.       Full version of operating system.

4.       An internal or external NIC (Network Interface Card).

5.       Must have properly configured TCP/IP protocol sweet.

6.       A network connection via HUB or Switch.

7.       A domain name and running DNS server.

These are the basic requirements for using active directory in Windows Server 2008.

Hi Camille,

Well this will not solve your problems related to your emails. Now depends what are those problems (connection problem with the server, missing emails, synchronization problem with the server, etc.)

If you are a “normal” user, using your computer only for yourself, you don’t need Active Directory. This functionality exists on Windows Server solutions that will help the administrator to manage the entire group of users. Of course there are other benefits Active Directory, but I think those are not related to your problem. If you don’t want to manage and organize the security of a big group of users, programs, hardware, but only your emails then I suggest you to not use this approach.

If you need more information, I will gladly respond.

Thank you,

Aabel
