Which is the best way to determine whether a cable used in a computer is a power cable or data cable.

Hi John,

Very often, the power cable and data cable can look the same. They can both be used to carry data or power.
Several kinds of cable can carry both power and data at the same time even. 

However, very often there are physical differences between a data cable and power cable.
Data cables usually have thinner but more wires. While power cables have two to three and thicker wires.

hi John,

Nice question….Actually power and data cables are different two stuff.to run a unit in pc both the cables should connected to identify these two cables there are two things,

1.Data cables are usually wider and thinner and we cant see the wires,and power cables not like that its not wider comparing to Data cables and also power cables have lots of wires in different colors.

2.Data cables are usually connected the MOTHERBOARD and device(rom,floppy drive etc..) but the power cables should come from POWER unit.
