The VMware Workstation 6.0 Can’t Determine Guest Operating System

I keep on getting the similar repetitive pop up error alert as shown below:

VMware Import Wizard

Unable to determine Guest Operating system

The VMware Import Wizard is not okay as it cannot find the Guest Operating system.

Why this message keeps on appearing. Kindly please give an explanation to this…

Hello Timothy,

This error is popping because you have installed the VMware software with Administrator privileges (i.e. installed it from the administrator account) and referring to the error message you are getting it is quite clear that you have made this software available for the Guest account on your operating system. So, in order to fix this error you need to make this program available to the Guest user. You can do this by going to ‘Control Panel -> Program Accessibility and Features’.

Hi Timothy,

First, take down your Guest Operating System Type.  Then change your VM Guest Operating System Type to a something with the same processor type but on a lower release such as Windows 7 to Windows Vista to Windows XP.  Be mindful if it’s a 64 bit or a 32 bit Operating System.  Then try converting your VM.  If it does not work, do the steps again but convert it to the original Operating System you wrote down.
