Hi there,

I am using windows XP Professional and wants to install the latest Visual C ++ Redistributable package.

For that, I have to uninstall the older one installed on my system.

But unfortunately, when I open start menu and choose control panel and select add remove program and then from there, try to uninstall Visual C  + + Redistributable 2005, it gives the following error.

windows installer error

Windows Installer

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed.

This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

Contact your support personnel for assistance.

Now the new one requires that the older one should be uninstalled first before proceeding. Whereas the older one is giving error and not in the mood of reinstallation.

I am twisting between the two. Kindly help me to get rid of this problem.

Thanks.

The un-installer for the package is missing from your PC which may be causing this error.

For the usual way of uninstall which you are trying, the un-installer must be present in your PC.

However, there are two ways to solve this issue:

1. Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributable 2005. As soon as you try to reinstall the package, you should also see an uninstall option on your screen. Just click on the uninstall option to uninstall. If the uninstall option does not come up, install the package and once done just simply uninstall it from the Add Remove programs from you control panel.

2. Download and install Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Launch the program and select Visual C  + + Redistributable 2005 from the list that comes up and uninstall accordingly. To download Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, just follow this link:

Best of Luck!
