Video chatting problem: Can’t hear voices

When I am trying to chat in Yahoo Messenger, my voice can’t be heard by the other people, and I can only hear my own voice sometimes. I am facing the same problem with Windows Live Messenger and Skype. Any solution for this problem.

Hello Adelle,

I think the problem is either in your microphone or the other person's speaker/headset.

In Skype, click Tools > Options > Audio Settings then check if the microphone meter responds to your voice. If the volume meter doesn't react to your voice then the problem is with your microphone.

Are you using an external microphone?  If so, make sure it is plugged into the correct socket on your computer. Mostly pink or red goes to the pink/red socket. Check your microphone, if it's turned to mute. Some microphones have mute/unmute buttons.

Check if Skype is using the right microphone. Click Tools > Options > Audio Settings and check if the correct microphone is selected on the dropdown menu. Also try un-checking the box "Automatically adjust microphone settings" and manually set volume to high.

Hello Adelle,

The problem here may be with your internet connection. If the internet connection speed is too slow then voice cannot be transmitted very well online since it requires a very fast internet connection work well. So if you are using a wireless network, you will need to identify a hotspot that has the best speeds of internet connection and surf from there.

Another possible cause of the problem could be a faulty sound box or headphones that you using. Try using other headphones and see if you will experience the same problem. Also try adjusting the sound and mixer settings on your laptop and see if they will help solve the problem that you are having.
