I have Verizon DSL as my Internet Provider and I'm thinking of switching over to AT&T. I keep on turning off and back on my modem as a tech support representative advised me to do so every time I can't connect. Do I need to replace my modem? I often have connection problems with it since day 1 and very frustrated about the speed that I'm getting. My speed is 1MBPS but even browsing facebook is difficult. I know there must be something wrong. Anybody can help?

With lagging issues you will have to try the following:

  • Turn off your computer first
  • Turn off your router (if you have one aside from your modem)
  • Turn off your modem and unplug it from the source or from the phone/wall jack
  • Wait 10 seconds
  • Plug back in the modem to its source
  • Turn on the modem
  • Once the internet light on the modem is on, turn the router on as well
  • Wait for the router to connect to the internet
  • Turn the computer back on
  • Try to surf the web
  • If issue still persists, clear your browsing history, delete cookies and cache, and reset your browser
  • Once done, close your current browser and open a new one
  • Try to browse the web again
  • If you still have the same lagging issue, scan your system to remove any malware or virus threats that may be slowing down the connection and affecting the performance of your computer
  • Defragment your hard disk drive at least once every 2-weeks
