Hi,

Due to virus attack I recently upgraded to LINUX and the installation was successful as at the time of installation. As at the time of installing I didn’t get any error and now at the time of booting it just keeps showing as Loading, please wait.

The version of Ubuntu is 8.04.4 LTS, kernel of type 2.6.24-28 of type generic. Please help me in solving this.

Thank You.

Its a great opportunity for you to learn LINUX. It seems you have problems loading the GRUB boot loader.

The GRUB boot loader is used to load the operating system in memory. A list of available operating systems in your computer should be shown in this list. However there are some complications in every version of free LINUX. You may reinstall the GRUB boot loader if you need.

If you can see the list, and then the Loading, is shown, then you have no problems with GRUB. Open it in the recovery mode. If you cannot get rid of it ,try providing questions at forum of UBUNTU. However the best practice is to re-install the application.

Thanks.

Did you updated your Ubuntu kernel before upgrading the system? I think that it might be the problem.

Simple solution for this is use USB image to boot from USB and install(check for your hardware compatibility). Don't forget to back up your data using live image. You can recover a GNU/Linux system, but, it will be tricky thing.

Just go for the simplest and easiest solution. This is only my suggestion. I am not an Linux expert. I am just an end user of Linux.
