Unable to update new iPhone 4S: Error on SIM card

As I am trying to update my new iPhone 4S, I received an error stating that “Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier's store to receive a replacement SIM card." I never used any sim cards or even take out my sim card on my phone. I brought my iPhone to the Apple Store near our place and my problem is questionable to them. So they just replaced it with something new. But the same thing happened after the replacement. What is causing this problem? Help please.

Have you tried removing the sim card and then inserting it again? Try that, remove the sim card and then insert it again, and then restart the iphone. It may be just a technical problem that is being experienced and restarting the iphone may fix that problem.

It may also be possible that the version that you are upgrading to is meant to support only some sim cards and not others and not your and therefore you will need to try updating from another site. In case the problem persists, you will need to do the following:

  • Contact the iphone customer support and find out if the problem is with the iphone.
  • Contact the sim card customer support and inform them about the problem, may their systems are having some problems,
