TV HD quality with not HD receiver

I bought a new TV  Samsung 46 pouces D5000 Full HD, i have a receiver which is not HD, should i buy a new one HD to have the HD quality? it requires that I purchase other HD devices? It works with my old receiver (not HD quality) or it doesn't work?
