If you keep receiving error code “0x80070020” when you try to install a Windows Update or check for an update, try disabling the Windows Firewall. Click “Start”, “Control Panel” then “Windows Firewall”. If you don’t see this, set view to “Small icons”. Next, click “Turn Windows Firewall on or off” on the left pane then select to disable the Windows Firewall.

After this, try Windows Update again and see if it works. If this doesn’t work, download the Windows Update Troubleshooter for users with Windows 10. Once downloaded, run the file and follow the instructions. If you have Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, download the Windows Update Troubleshooter version for Windows 8.1. Run it then follow the instructions.

If you have Windows 7, download the Windows Update Troubleshooter version for Windows 7. Run it then follow the instructions.
