Hello Rachel Grifiths,

This DX Error 0x8876017C is caused by an issue with Microsoft Direct X. You can see the following document to determine the version of Direct X you are using with the Direct X Diagnostic Tool: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/157730/en-us?fr=1

Also download and install the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

These steps should solve your issue with Skype.

Regards,

P Vhilary

If you keep getting that error whenever you start Skype just try reinstalling the program if you still have the installer. But if you no longer have the installer, just download the latest version. First, download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it. Once installed, start Revo Uninstaller then select Skype from the list and then click “Uninstall.”

Follow the normal uninstall process. When you are prompted to restart the computer, select to restart later. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and then delete everything it finds. This will remove everything the program created on your computer. When Revo is finished, close Revo Uninstaller and then restart the computer.

After booting, open your web browser and download the latest Skype for Desktop. It supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. See if the latest version fixes the problem.
