Runtime error on Microsoft Excel 2007 while opening a file.

I am trying to open a file that was sent to me by a colleague. It is a Microsoft Excel file and I am trying to open it in Excel 2007. It gives me a runtime error message whenever I try to open it. What can I do to open the file? What does runtime error mean?

Runtime error on Microsoft Excel 2007 while opening a file.

The Runtime error you are getting could be cause by Screen Updating property of Excel 2007 set to False (it turns off screen updating of Excel 2007), accidentally you programmed excel to print or print preview a file, or another the file could be open or being used by another program. To fix this issue I would recommend using Microsoft's Fix It Tool. You can download it from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/978399/description-of-the-office-excel-2007-hotfix-package-excel-x-none-msp-g and then click on the Hotfix Download Available option, and then install and run it on your computer.
