Ripping music from iTunes takes too long

I am having a problem importing music CDs to iTunes on my Mac with OS X 10.6.8. Ripping music takes too much time, much much slower than it has previously. Is my DVD drive failing? It currently works at 2X speed and I'm not sure if this normal. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Coury Timmons,

I am sorry to know that you are having these problems.

In order to better assist you in resolving your issue, I would need to know the make and model of the DVD drive that you are using in your computer.

The problem does not necessarily mean that your drive is failing. It could be a problem caused by the CD you are trying to rip the songs from. The CD may be scratched or dirty.

To properly clean the surface of your CD, please follow these instructions:

1. Get a SOFT, CLEAN cotton cloth.

2. Use regular 'Rubbing Alcohol' to dampen a section of the cloth.

3. Use the dampened cloth to wipe the underside of the CD (this is the side facing downwards in the DVD drive). Always wipe the cloth in a circular motion along the surface of the CD.

This process should remove any unwanted dirt from the surface of the CD. Use this process to clean all your CD's.

Once you have cleaned the CD, try ripping in iTunes again.

The process of ripping should be faster from there onwards.

Thank you
