Twisted pair cabling is available in two varieties mainly: shielded and unshielded. Unshielded twisted pair is more popular and is the best option in use for school networks
The connector available for unshielded twisted cables is an RJ-45 one. It is a plastic connector that is like a telephone-style connector.
If you should place the cable in sensitive environments that might be susceptible to the current in the UTP, in that case, shielded cable may be the fix. Shielded cables also help to increase the maximum distance of the wires.
Apart from these two, a coaxial cable has a copper conductor at its center.
Twisted pair or the twisted pair cable is the ordinary copper wire that connects your home and many business computers to the telephone company. To lower electromagnetic induction or crosstalk between pairs of wires, two insulated copper wires are twisted around each other and that’s why it is called twisted pair. Every connection on twisted pair needs both wires.
Because several desktop locations and telephone sets need several connections, twisted pair is occasionally installed in two or more pairs all within a single cable. For several business locations, twisted pair is enclosed in a shield that works as a ground. This setup is called STP or Shielded Twisted Pair. The ordinary wire used at home is called UTP or Unshielded Twisted Pair.
Twisted pair cables come with every pair color coded when it is packaged in multiple pairs. Different applications like analog, digital, and Ethernet need different pair multiples. Even if twisted pair is frequently used at home, a higher grade of twisted pair is often used for horizontal wiring in LAN installations because it is cheaper than coaxial cable.
