Try to disable all firewalls and disable the guard of your AVG Antivirus. Then try to upgrade. Be sure of the memory of the hard disk and a decent internet speed connection as well.Contact your internet service provider if your Antivirus doesn't upgrade at all.If all of the options failed then it may be due to some corrupted memory of computer.

Try restarting your computer and if it still doesn't work ,unistall the AVGand try reinstalling it. I hope this might help you!

Uninstall the antivirus again then check your computer for any possible errors. Use a disk utility application to check the system. For a much thorough diagnostics on the system, use a disk utility application like PC Tools Performance Toolkit or Norton SystemWorks. After checking your system, install AVG again and see if it works now.

You may also try visiting https://us.norton.com/downloads-trial-norton-internet-security and download Norton Internet Security 2012. It has a 30-day free trial period that will give you plenty of time to evaluate the product. And if you liked it, you can use NIS Trial Reset to extend its subscription period to about 90 days. You can search the web for the NIS Trial Reset by BOX and if you find one be sure to scan the file because it is usually infected by a Trojan. I am lucky to find one that is not Trojan infected but I don’t have the freedom of sharing it here. Do your own search and be patient.
