Only My Wallpaper Is Displayed On

I've owned a HP 540 laptop and when I switch it on it doesn't show any display. I've tried to connect a display monitor to the VGA port of the laptop to check its display if it is okay. 

I've done on pressing the f5 together with fn button to switch to external monitor for display. Still there is nothing on my screen except for the wallpaper which I setup before.

Hi Mike,

Try this method to solve your problem:

1. On your computer < Click Start < Select Run < Type Regedit < then located this path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrent VersionImage File Execution OptionExplorer.exe < Delete this folder if you can see this one or

2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrent VersionImage File Execution OptionYour Image File Name Here without a path < Delete this one if you cannot find the Explorer.exe

3. Lastly, restart your PC

Hello Dear,

There are many possibilities for this issue. If it is showing blank screen when you turn on your laptop the

  1.  VGA cable inside the laptop which transmits signals to the LCD might be damage.
  2. There could be a problem with the RAM. Try removing the RAM and insert it again.  
  3. Thirdly there can be the problem with the cell which is fixed on the board.
  4. Moreover if your laptop shows display and does not proceed then it can be the operating system related issue.
