While trying to set up ancient video games like Dave I received this problem: "D:FLASHG~1DAVE.exe

The NTVD CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:c000 IP:5b9a OP:0f 00 00 00 03 Choose ‘Close’ to terminate the application.

I can't start my .bat C++ gathered applications; as I attempt to press on the .bat, it posted a dark-colored CMD screen and runs.

I have scanned my PC using ESET antivirus 4 and Malware bytes but no threats have been found. I am running Windows XP.

16-bit MS-Dos Subsystem

Please help me.

If you are getting the error ‘The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction’ message, you may need to try the steps below:

  • Running System File Checker is the first thing you may want to try. It will scan and fix any corrupted system files on the Operating system. Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > Right click on the Command Prompt > Choose Run as Administrator on the Security Tab > Click on Command Prompt > Type SFC /Scan now.
  • Add servers in config.nt
  • Increase ILES number in config.nt
  • Try to follow https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/196453/troubleshooting-ntvdm-and-wow-startup-errors
  • Try to make sure you do not have any setup.com or similar Trojan.
