Hi experts

I have tried to start My laptop but it won't open today. However it was running very well when I turned it off last night.

At the time of startup, I find the Dell loading display briefly, and then I just see a black screen and find some error messages.

It shows 'NTLDR or Is Missing' as well as 'press key to restart, which makes it to do again the same things.

Then I tried to boot from my Windows Vista Disc to solve it but Startup fix won't work.

Please help. Thanks a lot.

Yes, the post above is correct. The “NTLDR is missing” error usually appears if any of those files (ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini) is missing or can not be found the time you boot the computer.

If this is the first time you encounter this error, try restarting your computer because the error could be just a fluke or a glitch in the system when it was booting.

If after restarting your computer you see the same error again, check your optical drive if there is a disk inside, you need to remove it.

Check if you have any flash drive or external hard drive connected to one of the USB ports in the CPU, remove it as well and then restart the computer.

If your computer is clear from any of those items mentioned above and you are still stuck with that error, you may need to extract the files ntldr and ntdetect.com from your Windows Vista installer disk. Insert your Windows Vista installer disc in your optical drive then open Windows Explorer.

Browse the disk and search for the files ntldr and ntdetect.com. In Windows XP installer disc, it is located in i386 folder.

Copy these 2 files in drive C’s root directory, C:.

By the way, before I forgot, Windows Vista and Windows 7 don’t use ntldr.

How come you are seeing this error of you have Windows Vista.

You're steps on running Bootrec.exe are very detailed and precise, I did not encounter any problems.

I was able to repair my system using the /Fixboot option.

After restarting, the problem with my laptop is gone.
