‘NTLDR or Is Missing’; ‘Press any key to restart’

Hi experts

I have tried to start My laptop but it won't open today. However it was running very well when I turned it off last night.

At the time of startup, I find the Dell loading display briefly, and then I just see a black screen and find some error messages.

It shows 'NTLDR or Is Missing' as well as 'press key to restart, which makes it to do again the same things.

Then I tried to boot from my Windows Vista Disc to solve it but Startup fix won't work.

Please help. Thanks a lot.

Hello Lisette

You receive this error message if one or a lot of the subsequent Windows boot files square measure missing or damaged:
Ntldr
Ntdetect.com
Boot.ini

You can use the Bootrec.exe tool within the Windows Recovery setting (Windows RE) to troubleshoot and repair this downside in Windows prospect and seven.

To run the Bootrec.exe tool, you want to begin Windows RE. To do this, follow these steps:
Put the Windows prospect or Windows seven installation disc within the hard drive, so begin the pc.
Press a key once you square measure prompted.
Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or Associate in Nursing input technique, so click Next.
Click Repair your laptop.
Click the package that you simply need to repair, so click Next.
In the System Recovery choices panel, click electronic communication.
Type Bootrec.exe, so press ENTER.
Now sort the subsequent command and press enter

/FixBoot
The /FixBoot possibility writes a brand new boot sector to the system partition by employing a boot sector that's compatible with Windows prospect or Windows seven. Use this selection if one in every of the subsequent conditions is true:
The boot sector has been replaced with a non-standard Windows prospect or Windows seven boot sector.
The boot sector is broken.

An earlier Windows package has been put in once Windows prospect or Windows seven was put in. During this state of affairs, the pc starts by victimization Windows nongovernmental organization Loader (NTLDR) rather than the Windows Boot Manager (Bootmgr.exe).

Additionally you'll be able to additionally do that command if /FixBoot fails however i do not believe can|this may|this can} be necessary and /FixBoot will resolve your downside.

/FixMbr
The /FixMbr possibility writes a Windows seven or Windows Vista-compatible MBR to the system partition. This selection doesn't write the present partition table. Use this selection once you should resolve MBR corruption problems, or once you have to be compelled to take away non-standard code from the MBR.

Yes, the post above is correct. The “NTLDR is missing” error usually appears if any of those files (ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini) is missing or can not be found the time you boot the computer.

If this is the first time you encounter this error, try restarting your computer because the error could be just a fluke or a glitch in the system when it was booting.

If after restarting your computer you see the same error again, check your optical drive if there is a disk inside, you need to remove it.

Check if you have any flash drive or external hard drive connected to one of the USB ports in the CPU, remove it as well and then restart the computer.

If your computer is clear from any of those items mentioned above and you are still stuck with that error, you may need to extract the files ntldr and ntdetect.com from your Windows Vista installer disk. Insert your Windows Vista installer disc in your optical drive then open Windows Explorer.

Browse the disk and search for the files ntldr and ntdetect.com. In Windows XP installer disc, it is located in i386 folder.

Copy these 2 files in drive C’s root directory, C:.

By the way, before I forgot, Windows Vista and Windows 7 don’t use ntldr.

How come you are seeing this error of you have Windows Vista.

Thank you very much Resonance!

You're steps on running Bootrec.exe are very detailed and precise, I did not encounter any problems.

I was able to repair my system using the /Fixboot option.

After restarting, the problem with my laptop is gone.

You're the best.

Thanks TechyV!
