I was trying to connect on my network but whenever I try to connect my laptop on the network, my other laptop (which is already connected) disconnects. I am using a dhcp dsl modem and router. Please help! What seems to be the problem? Thanks!

Hi,

For the solution of your problem you can repair your Internet Connection with the Network Connection Repair tool by the following ways. Right click on the network icon and select Repair on here. If  Network icon is not displayed  on your computer in the Notification Area than go to the control panel and right click on the network connection  repair it either it is LAN or Wireless. After it windows  will  automatically take several basic steps that will essentially ‘flush’ the current  configuration, and start fresh, also requesting a new IP address from your modem. After a minute or so, you will see there. If you do not find a connection than change you router

You might be having problems with your network configuration or your network router is damaged.

Solution 1:

Try configuring your router again by using the installation disc provided with it. Then do change anything except for having a password on the Wireless Lan. It should fix the problem.

Solution 2:

Try repairing the network on your computer. You can also go to Start and then Run, and then type CMD on the input box. Then type the following on the command prompt:
ipconfig /all
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Solution 3:

Your router might be the probkem and have it fix or replace by another one. If the warranty is available then have it replaced by the store where you bought it.

Router allows you to connect multiple computer working at the same time. It is usual when connecting 1 computer and other disconnects from the network.

This might caused by an IP address conflict that whoever connects to the network last will gets the Internet access.

Check the settings of your Wireless Network Connections if it's on auto-obtain on DNS and IP Address.

Go to Start, Control Panel
Click on Network and Internet
Select Network and Sharing Center
Choose Change Adapter Settings
Right click on WLAN then properties
Highlight on IpV4 Ip Address then properties
Select auto-obtain for both DNS and IP Address

This should let you connect to the Internet.
Also, router has settings that limits how many computer can connects to the Network. This should be disabled or at least add additional restrictions. Contact your Router manuracturer to process and fix this settings.

Normally, another computer connecting to a network shouldn't be able to affect the other computers connected unless there is a limitation on the network itself that causes the disconnection. Check your DHCP settings and make sure the IP address range being set can accommodate all the devices that connect to the network and get the IP address from the DHCP server. Also make sure both computers have the IP address set through DHCP, otherwise, if one has a static IP address and the DHCP server happens to set the same IP address to another machine, then it will create an IP address conflict on the network which will affect the connectivity of the affected machines.
