I have recovered .mov files that I lost after formatting my drive but they just wont play. I used different software including PC inspector, recuva and myeasyrecovery to recover the files but each time they will not play. I have tried them on different players including VLC, Media player classic and jet video but the players do not show errors yet they behave as if no file has been added to the playlist. The recovered files show a full size. What could be causing this? How can I recover these files since they are important?

MOV files or “.mov” files are QuickTime files. They are specifically saved in this format to be played or for playing back using the QuickTime player but they can also be played using other media players that support MOV format. I know media player classic and VLC media player support MOV format and they should play the video.

To make sure you are using a qualified media player to play the video, try installing QuickTime. It should be able to play the video since it is the media player designed for the video format in the first place. To download, visit Download QuickTime 7. The current latest version is QuickTime 7.7.6.

It supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.
