Hi there,

I have this error in Microsoft System Center 2012 when I want to create a protection group. I watched some tutorials on the Internet to learn how to use this but sometimes I am stuck with days with an error. Please, can anyone help me to fix this error? Is there an article on this website about Microsoft System Center 2012?

Thank you!

Microsoft System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager

Eseutil consistency check cannot be performed for this protection group, as eseutil .exe is not present on the DPM server

Copy the following files from the Exchange Server installation folder to “C:Program FllesMicrosoft System Center 2012’DPMDPMbin’ on the DPM server:

Ese.dll

Eseutil .exe

You can also choose not to run Eseutil consistency check for this protection group, by not selecting the “Run Eseutil Consistency check” option. However, this is not recommended because it will not ensure the recoverability of the protected data.

Microsoft System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager error

It seems like there is only a little problem why you have an error in the protection manager. The settings you selected and applied is always doing a consistency check using the Eseutil program every time you create a protection group or every time you use Microsoft System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager. This error is triggered because the required program and supporting file is not present on the server.

The files “ese.dll” and “eseutil.exe” should be located on the DPM server which is not the case. To fix the problem, you only need to copy both files on the indicated location and the Eseutil consistency check will work normally. First, click Start, Search, and then search your computer for the following files:

  • ese.dll
  • eseutil.exe

Supposedly, you can find these files in the installation folder of Microsoft Exchange Server. Once both files are found, save them in a USB flash drive then go to the DPM server or to the computer where Data Protection Manager is installed and copy the files in “C:Program FilesMicrosoft System Center 2012DPMDPMbin”.
