How I will ping and manage my Windows XP SP3 Clients (DHCP) from my DC (WinServer2003 R2) when they both obtain their IP addresses from the same DHCP server? How can I make my DC to function as a controller to manage my Windows XP clients and is there any need for Windows XP clients to modify their recommended settings of DHCP to obtain their IP addresses that ping DHCP and DC?

The IP address is not fact. Firewall is important for internet or server connection. So, for successful pinging you should first check your firewall setting. You can also use Windows XP SP3 and select automatic startup. Then go to NIC's TCP/IP stack and set it to automatic. You may visit : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/169289/dhcp-dynamic-host-configuration-protocol-basics

For more information on how to set up NIC's TCP/IP stack? First try to ping using  IP address. I hope you will get results. However it does not work you may use the username alternately. I hope it may work out for you. Thank you.

Hello Willvega,

To solve the issue you need to go to the network interface cards TCP/IP stack. When you are into the TCP / IP stacking please make sure it is working on automatic mode if not then set it manually. The utilization of the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol will be done by the driver itself.

You cannot ping by name because Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server does not update the AD DNS server. So try the IP address instead. It will work for you.

Thanks
