Hi, while opening the virtual box two most common errors are seen-VirtualBox 0x80040154 error and Virtualbox 0x80004005 error. The following steps can be performed for both types of errors.

Step 1: First go to MyComputer->C drive->’users’ folder and select any one of your personal folders.

Step 2: From the list of folders select any one of the folders named “.VirtualBox” or” VirtualBox.sav” or both to be deleted.

Step 3: Open the virtual box again and now the error doesn’t occur anymore.

There are different reasons why you receive error code “0x80004005” in VirtualBox but most of the time the cause is a missing file. The missing file is actually not missing but technically it is because the file has a suffix in the extension that’s why VirtualBox can’t find it. If you receive this error on VirtualBox, try this method. Open Windows Explorer then navigate to “C:\Users\COMPUTER_NAME\.VirtualBox\Machines\VM_NAME\” or something similar.

The path may be different depending on where you installed VirtualBox. In there, look for two files that has “vbox” extension something like “vm_name.vbox-tmp” and “vm_name.vbox-prev”. If you have an older version, you may see “xml” instead of “vbox”. Create a copy of the “vm_name.vbox-prev” file and rename it to “vm_name.vbox” discarding the “-prev” suffix. Start VirtualBox again after this and see if this works.
