Hello. No need to panic as there is a way to deal with this problem. If you have a backup plan through which you can get your data back, then it’s fine. But if you don’t have any backup then you can just recover data from the dead hard drive with the help of data recovery software such as EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard WinPE Edition.

Recover Data From Dead Hard Drive

This software can help you get all your lost data such as pictures, videos, documents, etc. Also, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard WinPE Edition supports recovering data hardware RAID, external hard disk, memory cards, etc.

I’m not sure what you mean by “dead” but if your computer cannot access your hard drive, check first the cables inside for loose connection. Turn off your CPU and unplug it from the power. Open the CPU case then check the cables at the back of your hard drive. Disconnect both the ribbon cable and the power cable from the hard drive then connect them back.

Plug your CPU back to the power and turn it on and press DEL to go to the BIOS. Try detecting your hard drive from the BIOS and see if it is detected. If there’s no problem with the hard drive physically, the BIOS should be able to detect it.

But if the drive is really broken, you won’t be able to detect it and that means it is literally unusable. If the drive is detectable, try formatting it to mark all possible bad sectors and so you will be able to use it again.

In case the drive is detectable in the BIOS but you cannot format it because of an error, download and install EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition and use it to delete the existing partition on the hard drive and create a new partition. This should allow you to create a fresh partition on the workable part of the hard drive.
