Hello to all,

I was just wondering about what is an upstream server. Every time I try to read about it, I fail to understand the same.

Is there anyone who can help me?

In the field of computer networking, the upstream server implies a server which offers service to another server. Alternatively, upstream server is one whose location is higher in the hierarchy of the servers. The top most server is sometimes called the origin server. The term, downstream server, is quite less in use.

The terms are in use where requests and responses move in different ways. It is not in use while discussing hierarchical routing as transferring of packets can use both the ways.
