This error can be defined when QuickBooks Desktop tries to make connection to a file but is unable to communicate to the server. There can be several reasons for this kind of issue. It may occur due invalid configuration while hosting, when a firewall blocks incoming or outgoing connection with the company file. If the .ND file has been damaged prevents it from accessing files. It may also happens because quickbook is unable to retrieve the IP address of host computer. Hope this helps.
