Maybe your operating system is not compatible with Java Platform SE. The latest version of Java is compatible with Windows Vista and because your operating system is Windows 7 it won't work.

It is possible to install Java SE on Windows Server 2003 Standard and Enterprise Edition 32 and 64-bit SP2 Windows 2003 Data Center Server 32-bit SP2 Windows XP Professional SP2 and Windows Vista Business Edition.

Hello Martin,

That is an error being caused by problems to do with registries and anything related to java on your computer. To resolve it you will need to do the following:

  • You will need to go to the system environment variables.
  • There, you will need  to remove the entire CLASSPATH variable.
  • After that you will reboot  the computer and then try installing Java 1.6.0.24.
  • See if that will successfully install without errors.

It will be better if you make a system restore point before you go ahead and make any changes to ensure that you can get back to this point in time before attempting to remove the CLASSPATH variable.

Regards,

Carl
