I’m having issues with spin down usb windows utility installation. I’ve just downloaded it from the CD and it doesn’t complete the installation. I clicked on the setup.exe but it gets stuck and it hung up preventing me from completing the installation. I really need this installed without causing conflict to my computer.

Hi Darlene Selvagio,

If you can not install the software completely on several times, you can try disabling the UAC on your computer.

  1. Go to your control panel
  2. Find the parental safety and user accounts
  3. Go to user accounts
  4. Change the user account control settings
  5. Set it to never notify you whenever you try something
  6. Retry installation

If that doesn't work, you can redownload the whole spin down utility on the western digital website.

Hi Darlene,

Seems that the installer might be corrupted, here are the things you can also try to do so we can isolate further. You can try to copy the installer from the CD to the Desktop.

If you have a Windows vista to Windows 8 OS right click the installer then choose run as Admin.

If this fails try to get another installer probably put it on a USB or an external HDD so data corruption will be minimum.

Hi,

Have you tried scanning the software before installing? If not, try to run an antivirus before installing again. I suspect that your system or the software is infected with malware. Restart Windows then run in Safe Mode.

You should also try updating all your Security Programs in order for them to work properly. Check also the software you're installing if it’s compatible with the system you are running.
