Hi there,

Installing new modem at home usually won't work but this depends on the type of Internet Service Provider you've subscribed with. Some Internet service provider won't let you use your modem unless the mac-address is provisioned and registered in their server.

Other Internet Service Provider uses PPPOE, needs to re-configure the modem by login in to GUI and set-up username and password to authenticate into their network. If you are using Static IP address, this modem also needs to provision for it to work. I would suggest contact your ISP provider for more help.

Thanks.

You haven’t mentioned what exactly your modem was but it is most probably a USB GSM modem that uses 3G cell phone signal.

Your modem depends on the signal that comes within your area. There is no collection with the driver. If your internet provider has low signal in your area you will never connect to the internet. Better to call your internet provider to verify the signal strength in your area.

Some USB modem doesn’t support Windows 7 operating system. If your modem is one of them, check for the web support for your modem and download a driver that is compatible with Windows 7.

If you are using a USB modem that relies on signal to connect to the internet like with a 3G mobile broadband USB stick, you have to use it in a location where there is a good signal reception. You cannot use it in an area where there is poor signal reception. You have to transfer to another area where you can receive high signal from your network.

Also, this kind of modem requires using a SIM card to connect to the network just like with a mobile phone. If the USB modem doesn’t have a SIM card in it, you won’t be able to connect to your network. The SIM card is the component responsible for the signal reception. It uses your modem’s built-in antenna to search for the network’s signal.

Without a SIM card, the USB modem’s antenna will not function and search for networks. If you are using the USB modem on a desktop computer that can’t be moved to a different area, you can use a USB extension cable so you can extend your USB modem to a much higher area for possible signal reception.
