Hello, File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) is one of the service roles that will help you to manage and classify data stored on the Windows 2008 R2 file server. It automatically performs tasks based on the classification. So, this role service would be installed/enabled using PowerShell or Server Manager. So, let us see the steps to do using Server Manager.

  1. Open Server Manager, then click on “Roles”. Now click on “Add Roles”. Before you begin page, click “Next”. In the Server Roles page, click on “File Services” and then click “Next”.
  2. Now in the File Services page, click “Next”. On the next page under the File Services page, check on File Server Resource Manager and then click “Next”.
  3. For now, let us skip the configuration of the FSRM and Configure Storage Usage Monitoring page by clicking “Next” for both pages. On the Confirm Installation Selection page, click “Install”.
  4. After installation, the File Server Resource Manage tool will be available in the “Start menu”. You can open this tool and configure the files that you wanted to change in the file server.
