Impact of social network sites

Hi Ruth E Tran,

Social network has recently been introduced and got the popularity all over the internet due to its enormous advantages. Besides its advantages social networking is facing a lot of difficulties like scamming, anonymity, wastage of time and sometimes harassment. It depends on the user that how he/she wants to use this service. The advantages of using social networking website like low cost, credibility among people, online connections among different communities have a very strong influence over people that compel them to use it even after knowing its demerits like online safety, identity theft etc.

Currently, Facebook, the largest social media network has reached 0.75 Billion users globally. Mark Zukerburg expects 1 Billion users of Facebook by the end of the 3rd quarter of 2012.

Impact of social network sites

Social networking sites have some positive and negative effects on the society. It can control the way we are and how we interact or communicate with each other. It gives us the freedom to say what we want and open up about things. But the social networking sites make people interacts easily with anyone we don't know. It can also be a mean for communicating with some friends or family from other places. Facebook nowadays is very familiar especially to youth; it is actually changing the mindsets of the youth. For the adolescence, they are growing with a belief that they are popular depending on the number of "Likes". Facebook, as of this year has over 900 million active users. It is possible that they will reach billion users before next year since they added a mobile application wherein users can access Facebook anywhere.
