Hi.  A friend sent me an .accdb file which she created in Microsoft Access 2010.  I'm trying to view the file but I'm having an error of "unknown file format".  I'm using Microsoft Access 2007.  Do I have to be on Access 2010 to view the file?  I need help with Access database unknown file format.

Hi Edward,

If the .accdb file, created using Access 2010, has features that are only introduced to that version, then you will not be able to open it using Access 2007. You will surely get that error.

You can try installing Access 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, this can only offer you limited viewing and designing capabilities.

If possible, remove some of the forms in the database that may be causing the issue. Access 2007 may not be recognizing these forms, hence the problem.

You should create a new Blank database in Access 2010 and import the existing objects from the existing database and save the file as an mdb file.
