I recently changed the administrator’s password in the web UI of Symantec back exec 3600 appliances and I encountered with the following error message:

This is a most common issue encountered in versions BE exec 3600.2 and R2 and the reason for this issue is that the administrator password cannot be updated after enabling UI in any other language other than English like Japanese UI.
There is a hotfix available for this issue nowadays. The hotfix enables you to upgrade BE exec 3600.2 or R2 to R3 and then you can change the administrator’s password.

Other than the above solution you can also try reverting back the administration console to English and for this Go to the Settings then Appliance Reconfiguration, then Language and TimeZone Configuration tab and select English as BackupExec’s language and click apply, the appliance will restart. Now you can change the administrator password again and for this go to Settings then Appliance Reconfiguration then Security tab and set a new password for Administrator.
