How synchronize works, I really don’t have an idea about this one. Could anyone explain it? Like for example when you say, synchronizing folders on your PC. Does it need any software?

Synchronization in computing means updating matched/paired items. That is to make one item (for example a computer) and the other item occur or exist simultaneously, and have the same phase.

In the case of folders in PC, when you sync two folders (for example the folders in your laptop or any remote file server to a desktop or home PC for your home working),  the folders on both devices are compared. It will synchronize the contents, the files. Files with the same name are compared, their versions are kept track. If they are not the same, the user will have to decide what to do: replace the older file, merge the files and/or any other available actions.

There are softwares available. SyncToy for example. However, most OS have their own sync program. Windows XP has it.
