How to fix a laptop that powers up but no display?

I have an HP laptop. It powers up but there is no display. I used an external monitor but still there is no signal coming from the laptop. Does anyone knows how to fix it? I let a friend of mine who is a Laptop Technician to open the laptop and check what's the problem. He said it must be heated. Maybe there are ICs that doesn't work or the video chip stops working. He doesn't have the heater so he left my laptop unrepaired.

If anyone can give me solutions please I need your help.

Thanks

If your monitor displays no signal detected when your laptop is suppose to display a video, then something may definitely be wrong. In this case, your monitor is not detecting a valid video signal or it could probably on hibernation mode. You may want to try the steps below:

  1. Check the monitor connection and make sure that the correct video output or cable is not loose
  2. In case your monitor has input or source button, please press it
  3. Since you already tried to connect your laptop to a different monitor and the issue persisted, then there’s a possibility that the monitor may have been damaged already, however, if your video card is built-in then there’s a possibility that it is no longer functioning properly or the motherboard may be damaged.

In case your computer may be in hibernate mode:

  1. Try pressing the spacebar or move the mouse
  2. If your laptop does not wake, press the keyboard suspend button twice.
  3. If it’s still the same, try to press the power button for a second release it.
  4. If the issue persists, then try restarting your laptop and turn off the suspend mode

You can unplug the power cord, remove the battery and hold the start button for 20-30seconds. Again put the battery, plug the power and start. This may work out.

Laptop overheating may also cause a problem like this. Always keep in power saver mode and not high performance mode because this could overheat your processor.

Sometimes, the GPU soldering would get damaged due to heating. It is recommended to air heat the soldering so that it can be fixed. But this is only temporary repair. Permanent repair must be done with well known technicians as it is required to detach the GPU from the Motherboard and the old soldering elements must be replaced with new ones. This actually resolves your problem!!!

Gud luck!!!

If the laptop computer shows no display even after turning it on and you see activity lights showing up in your computer including that of the hard drive as well as the other LED lights, then the problem is most likely caused by your video card or graphics display adapter. You most likely need to have that discrete graphics card replaced if your computer has one or you need to have the motherboard replaced if it’s one of those older computers whose video card is integrated into the chipset. Or, you need to replace the CPU if you’re using CPUs such as Intel’s i-series CPUs.
