I have a genuine Windows 10 product. I upgraded it from Windows 8.1 a few months back. Suddenly, I see a message that my Windows is not activated. I checked for the updates, and then ran the troubleshooter where I faced a 0xc0020036 error. I am not aware of my product key. How do I fix it?
Many people have faced the 0xc0020036 error after upgrading to Windows 10. Re-entering the product key usually solves the problem.
Method 1
a. Search for command prompt in the Windows search box, and open it as administrator.
b. Type wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey, and press enter.
c. Copy your product key.
d. Press Windows + R.
e. Type ms-settings:activation, and press enter.
f. Change the product key.
g. Enter your product key to complete the process.
h. Restart Windows.
Method 2
a. Open the command prompt as administrator, as stated in the first method.
b. Type slmgr /upk, and press enter.
c. Type slmgr /cpky, and press enter.
d. Follow method one to activate the product key.
Method 3
a. Press Windows + R on your keyboard.
b. Type Regedit and press enter.
c. Go to Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > sppsvc.
d. Expand the folders in the left pane following the path given above.
e. Double-click on Start (Second last option in the image).
f. Under Base, select hexadecimal.
g. In the Value Data, enter ‘2.’
h. Click Ok.
i. Restart your device.
j. Activate Windows by following method one.
