How to dispose of my mercury laptop battery

I have made a replacement for my laptop battery and since im an environmentalist I was concerned with the waste disposal for the battery. How I can dispose off this mercury without making an environmental problem? Do the manufacturers have a recycling plan to pick up the already used batteries?

How to dispose of my mercury laptop battery

Laptops run on lithium or lithium-ion batteries and the high heat of landfills can make these batteries explode. You can find large chain stores or smaller recycling center that take laptop batteries.

Check to see whether the manufacturer of your laptop has a program to take back the old battery. Apple and Dell have such programs.

You can also take the old battery to a Best Buy or Radio Shack for free recycling. Best Buy provides a liosk located inside the front door. Take the battery to a sales clerk at your nearest Radio Shack.
