How a conversion in winrar Mac be like

Having RAR as the most common formats for archiving and compressing multiples files into one. I use it commonly on Windows, I might wonder how it would vary from that of a MAC? How would a conversion Winrar mac would become any different than that of Windows? Although I know that MAC OS X operating system do come with a default archive utility and it does not even open a RAR file at all.

Hi Shannon,

That’s correct. MAC OS X only supports the zip file format. If you prefer compressing your file into RAR format then you will need to install a third party software which will do the job.

You may want to download RAR Expander for MAC which will compress your files into RAR format. This is a free version and very user friendly. You should have at least MAC OS X 10.7 / 10.8 as your operating system as this is the minimum requirement.  

Unfortunately, this software can only do file compression. If you need to unzip a RAR file, you will need to install UnRarX software. Just like RAR Expander this is also a free version but it does the opposite. It will only allow you to unzip any RAR file that you have.

Hi Shannon Stainbrook, go to this link https://rar-expander.en.softonic.com/mac and download RAR Expander so you can extract RAR files on your mac for free. RAR expander for Mac is a utility used on Mac computers to create and later uncompress files in RAR archives.  You can also go to this link https://unrarx.en.softonic.com/mac and download UnRarX. Both software do the same task of compressing and decompressing files. The reason why the in-built utility in Mac may not open the RAR files is because the utility is meant to open ZIP files. The RAR files usually require third party applications to open.

MAC compress files in .zip file format by default. You can download programs like Rar expander, The Unarchiver and Zipeg for MAC to open and decompress .zip, .rar, .7z, .z, .tar, .gz, .tgz, .bz2 and other file types. The great thing is these programs are completely free and very easy to use.

                        If you want to use the facility or RAR then you can make Zip folder and they can work on any of the operating system. Zip format is a format that can give you the facility to use anywhere is a platform independent software and you can save your data in that file and can also use that in MAC PC.
