Hello there,

I have a movie written in a CD.

The file extension of the movie is .vcd.

I have tried many software like including windows media player, quick time and etc, but it's no use.

It says that the software does not support the file. Is there any software i can use to play this video?

Please do help.

VCD stands for 'Video Compact Disc' and it is a CD that contains moving pictures and sound.

A VCD has the capacity to hold 75/80 minutes on 650MB / 700MB CDs respectively of full-motion video along with stereo sound. VCDs use a compression MPEG to store the video and audio.

A VCD can be played on almost all standalone DVD Players and of course on all computers with a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive with the help of a software based decoder / player.

You can download Lalim VCD Player for running .vcd extension video files here:

For playing VCD files you can use VLC player. VLC player plays all types of video files, and it is offered for free.

You would just have to download VLC player from the homepage.

The, install it on your computer. After completing the installation, open the VLC player.

Click on "File" from the menu tabs and click on "Open". Find the VCD file that you want to play and click "OK".

Edward Brown,

A VCD file is in a Video CD format. Normally played in VCD or DVD player but since you wish to play it in your computer.

You need to use the Video LAN Client (VLC) video player.

VLC is a free, versatile video player well known for playing all types of video files.

Here is a link.

Visit their website if you are not a Windows user.

You have to run the .exe file. Follow the instructions. Reboot your computer if asked.

If you are done installing, you can now open the VCD file. Click File>Open and select your VCD file or drive if it is in a CD-ROM.

Thanks,

Maybelle
