How can I connect my laptop to my wireless router?

I have a wireless router with an open security, but every time I try to connect my laptop to the wireless I keep on getting a message "unable to connect”. I don't know what to do, my router is out of warranty and the manufacturer won't support my product anymore unless I pay for the support. I would appreciate it if someone will be able to help me for this.

When the network gets an error message says "Unable to connect", this means a problem with the wireless network settings.

A proper way to solve this issue is to disconnect and reconnect to the wireless connection. This often caused by miss configure of wireless network.

Before changing the advanced settings of wireless networking, do the sequenced power cycle of the devices you have.

Turn off modem/router/computer then power it back up.

This ensure Internet connection is being transmitted from modem to router and broadcast signal with Internet access.

Refresh the wireless network list and connect to your unsecured network. If you still be an error message then I would suggest to secure your wireless SSID.

Log-in to GUI, 192.168.1.1 and type admin/password for username and password. Go to wireless tab and secure the network by setting up WEP or WPA.

Refresh again the network list and type WEP key. This should let you connect to the Internet.
