What is the best approach to reduce the rate of data consumption of my window 8 operating system? The rate at which my window 8 uses data is really mind boggling. Just surfing the internet, behold 3 gigabytes of data were finished within 2 hours without watch or download video or files. Even after I disable automatic update, the data usage is still high.

In windows 8.1 gives facility to limit and monitor the data usage which is for laptop and pc. But keep in mind that only doing metered connection you cannot reduce usage.
 
There are some tricks  for that using you can reduce your data usage.
 
1. Set as metered connection : First click on WiFi panel and click on setting after that right click and select set as metered connection to make it metered connection.
 
 
 
 
2.  Track data usage : Do the same procedure above shown and click on Show estimated data usage. Windows will track amount of data you have usage.
 
         
 
3.   Turn off all updated which is not required for your system through metered connection. For using that windows will not download anything by default.
 
         
 
4.  In the option PC AND DEVICES turn off download over metered connection. For using that drivers will not download automatically.
