Help with making timing diagram in VISIO 2010

I am new on using MS VISIO 2010, I am still learning how to use it. So now I am stuck in creating hardware timing diagrams, is that possible with VISIO 2010? Is there any templates available for that? Or is there any special tools for timing diagrams? Thanks in advance.

Hello James,

MS Visio is a great tool to make hardware timing diagrams. If you are just getting started with MS Visio, you are suggested to use stencils for making timing diagrams. Find a sample stencil here.

But just in case you find it difficult to work with MS Visio, you can try other tools like

• Drawtiming
• Timing (latex)
• Tikz-timing (latex)

Help with making timing diagram in VISIO 2010

Hello James,

Visio 2010 does support hardware timing diagrams. To use it for this purpose:

• Go to Start Menu > Vision 2010 > Engineering > Parts and assembly drawing > create

Templates for hardware timing are not available on Microsoft but they can be found online from third parties, though I would advise some caution.

If you cannot find what you want specifically, try tweaking some of the available options on Visio 2010 to fit your situation.

Hi,

Your Visio does support hardware timing diagrams. As a newbie on Visio, I suggest you use templates to get acquainted on Visio. Aside from the templates embedded on your Visio, Microsoft released 20 templates sometime 2011 thru WordPress. Click this to get there:  MS Visio Templates.

From the Microsoft Download Center, they also released a stencil software for creating Express-G, ORM, Jackson, and Room notation diagrams.

All details and how to install/use the software are explained on the linked site.

Microsoft does not have templates that support hardware timing; rather, there are other tools that do offer such templates like draw timing and Tikz-timing (latex). You can get them online. And if your requirements are of a specific nature, try tweaking your Visio 2010 options to fit your desired needs and preferences
