Hi guys,

I would like help on how to fix a video file with the m4v extension, the file is a video recording for my phones camera, unfortunately the camera application crashed during the filming process and I ended up with a damaged video file, the file will not open on the phone or on my pc.

What I would like is for someone to recommend a good video editing tool that I can use to repair the file or a procedure on how to repair m4v files. Anyone who can help me on this please reply to the post.

You'll need to use Video Repair Software that supports the M4V file formats. Video Repair Software can repair many file formats such as: M4V, MP4 and MOV 1 Download Video Repair Software. Install it. 2 Run Video Repair and select the corrupt file you want to be repaired. 3 Click on Repair 4 Wait for the repair process to complete and save the file in another directory. Using your favorite media player play the repaired file to find out if the repair was successful.

If the file can’t be played either on your PC or on your phone, I don’t think it’s possible to edit because the file is already corrupt. The video file has to playable first before it can be loaded and edited on a video editor. An M4V file is also an MP4 file.

They are of the same video format but just differ in the container name or the extension name used. Most M4V files use H.264 codec so you need a media player with H.264 support because it will not play on media players that don’t support H.264. If you are using an Android phone, the default media player doesn’t support H.264 so generally, the file will not play.

To make sure the file is supported, use VLC media player to play the file both on your computer and on your Smartphone. For PC, download VLC media player for Windows. It supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. For Android, download VLC for Android.

It requires Android 2.2 Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread, 3.0 Honeycomb, 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 4.1 Jelly Bean, 4.4 KitKat, 5.0 Lollipop, 6.0 Marshmallow, 7.0 Nougat, and 8.0 Oreo. For Mac, download VLC for Mac OS X. It supports OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks, 10.10 Yosemite, 10.11 El Capitan, and 10.12 Sierra.
