You lost your file association, you have to restore it. There are two solutions:

1) • USING MICROSOFT TOOL
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/950505/when-you-run-an–exe-file-on-a-windows-xp–windows-vista-or-windows-7

 2) • Modify your REGISTRY

Hello,

You mean your computer does not open all .exe files, or is it refusing to open a specific application that is in the .exe format? Because if it is only one application then it is possible that your antivirus or our firewall is blocking the execution of those files.

To solve that you will have to filter the files through the firewall and the antivirus too so that when you execute the files are not blocked by these applications. You should look for the option for adding the .exe application to exception, and do not allow for all because some .exe files that may want to be executed may be dangerous and you should let the firewall and antivirus warn you about that.

Hope this helps.
