I have an HP Pavilion dv6 that fell from my hands last night and now it turns on but the hard disk is not detected by the laptop. I have lots of important data on the hard drive. Is my hard drive completely damaged? Can I recover my important data? If so, how can I recover the data?

Hard disk stopped working after the laptop fell.

One case scenario that your laptop could no longer detect your hard drive after exhausting all avenues or proven remedies. You now need to extract physically the hard drive itself. You would need an adaptor. There is this one available in the market and you could check it out at tripplite.com. Afterwards, you now can connect the hard drive of your laptop to any computer to recover your files. The worst case is, and the saddest, your hard drive crashes and the mechanism inside does not working anymore or the actuator had misaligned, etc.

There are 2 ways to solve this issue. Check whether the hard disk is getting detected with these 2 simple solutions.
1. Go to the BIOS setup, and change the disk controller setting from AHCI to IDE.
2. Try to manually check whether or not the drive is recognized by your computer. If it’s the primary hard drive then you can do this via the BIOS. After you turn on the computer, open the BIOS by pressing a trigger key. Once the BIOS get open, Within the BIOS, Navigate through the available menus. In available menus find which types of drives are connected to the computer. Usually, this information is found under the advanced menu, but you might also find it indirectly under Boot settings.
