Hi,

I have this error message box while I am trying to run Hammer and creating maps. I have opened the gameinfo.txt and blurred me totally. I want to learn how to create maps so I am a newbie with this program and such errors. What this error means and how it can be solved ?

Thank you !

Hammer Error

Setup file ‘gameinfo.txt’ doesn’t exist in subdirectory ‘C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappsgarrysmod content.gcf’.

Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting.

OK

Actually, this error is similar to one of the users trying to play Counter Strike and he received the same error about the missing “gameinfo.txt” file. The only difference here is that you are trying to create some maps with Hammer when the error hit you and the other guy is trying to play Counter Strike.

There is a simple work around that worked on the guy playing the Counter Strike and may possibly work on you too. We’ll just need to make some changes on the original method since you both have different programs to refer to. Click Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, System. Select Advanced tab. In the lower part, click Environment Variables. See image.

In System Variables, scroll down and find “Vproject”, select it, and hit Edit. Change the string to without quotes “C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamapps”. Click OK all through out then try again. This should fix the problem.
