In Microsoft Office, if you activate the Sow/Hide button, it will display ‘formatting marks’. These characters are shown on the window to help the user to adjust the ‘white space’ for your document. Also, the end of a particular paragraph is indicated by a particular symbol. A blank space will be indicated with a small dot. In short, it reveals hidden formatting marks which are very useful for the users.

The show / hide button ¶ has following functionalities:

1- The show / hide button ¶ changes or toggles the display of characters which  are not printable and the defined characters which are not printable. 

2- It also shows the paragraph marks and the formatting symbols. which are hidden.

3- It is also used to display the hidden text.

4- The show / hide button has all the paragraph formatting functions.

5- It is used to hide the dots, arrows and symbols from your document.

Hello Fred,

This button usually used for better format of a written document. Suppose you are going to write a story using MS Office and you are thinking of a format for that document. Now you would like to have the proper documentation of that. This may help you on that. If you change anything by mistake and than just for checking that you can use it. It usually shows the break in the paragraphs. It will show the button sign at the end of every paragraph also will show the arrow sign in listing formats.
