To scan the system files follow the steps-

  1. Run command prompt as administrator
  2. Type sfc/scannow

This command will check all the system files and look for corrupted files and inform you. It also fixes some files and replaces the corrupted ones. Avoidclosing the command prompt until the process is 100%complete.

If your system or Microsoft Windows is not working properly, the first thing you should try is to use the System File Checker utility. This tool scans your operating system’s protected system files for incorrect versions and replaces them with correct ones. To use the tool, click “Start,” “All Programs,” “Accessories” then right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator” to open an elevated command prompt.

If you are using Windows XP, just run the command prompt. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. When you are prompted to insert the Windows setup CD or DVD, insert the disc on your optical drive and continue. This process may take some time to finish. When the process is complete, close the command prompt and restart the computer.

See if this works. If this doesn’t work, try using PC Tools. Download PC Tools Performance Toolkit. Follow the instructions to download and unpack and then install it. Once installed, start PC Tools then go to “Recovery” tab and click “Repair Drives”. On the next screen, select your system drive from the list (C:) and select “Surface Scan” in the options.

When you are ready, click “Start” to start checking the disk for errors. If you receive an error after doing this, repeat the same steps and check “Perform on reboot”. Click “Start” then “Continue”. Close PC Tools then restart the computer to begin the check. Also, try cleaning your system. Download the free version of CCleaner and install it.

Once installed, start CCleaner and clean your system. Next, start PC Tools then click the “1-Click Optimization” button in the “Dashboard” tab to clean and optimize your system. After this, close PC Tools then restart the computer. See if this works.
