Exchange Server 2003 does not allow upgrade to 2008

I have installed Server 2008 which previously has Server 2003, after taking the back up of active directory with the NT backup utility. Even though I have done a clean installation, it was not allowed to upgrade. When I am trying to restore the Active Directory in Server 2008, it is getting an error message which says ‘Restore is not supported on this item’. It will be great, if anybody can help me out of this problem.

With the NetBackup utility, you can be able to restore individual items of Exchange mailboxes, public folders, subfolders and even the individual messages from a database backup.  This makes such kind of backup reliable in both kinds of recovery situations.

With the use of the same backup image, you can be able to restore the entire storage groups or databases. You can also be able to restore the individual folders or messages that are within a mailbox or public folder. When doing that backup, you can be able to replace the existing mailbox-level backup.

One setback is that the Exchange Granular Recovery feature is only  limited to the Ms Exchange 2003/2007 that should be running on Windows 2003/Windows 2008, and therefore to utilize the new feature, you will need to make sure that the master server(s), media server(s), and clients have NetBackup 6.5.3.
