Try these steps:

Send your file to your Gmail account and open the attachment.

Once you open it, it will have this message: "

• Select the HTML version and your file should open already.

OR :

• Open MS Word then click the Open folder.
• locate your file then Change the Files of Type combination box to "Recover Text from AnyFile (*.*).
• Select your document and click Open.

Download the Install Office 2010 Service Pack 1:

• Use the Fix it solution to recover your word document: You can either have it recovered for you or fix it by yourself.
• If you want it to be recovered for you, click the Fix it button or link. A File Download box opens up, click RUN and follow the fix it wizard steps.

TextEdit application on your Mac can also open Word Document files.
